The hot mess to the left is my 10th grade self with type 4 hair yes protective hair I hate braids now that I am older but when I was younger my mom did my hair and since she is a professional braider I always had braids at one point all lengths and colors lol. Protective hair is healthy hair to a degree it's very low maintenance and can keep your hair in a healthy state. Most type 4 hair is fun and cute but some are just ugly and can cause your hair damage when the goal is health. If I had to pick a protective hairstyle at my current age it would be a fell head weave, Full lace wig , micro individuals or french braids. Being that I'm currently natural I don't want to damage my hair but I'm def a slave to a good weave oh yes i love some nice straight hair and my favorite straight hair happens to not be my own hair straighten it just looks cray. Type 4 hair has it's own unique swag and it's easy to go over board and damage your hair, braids can be too tight and pull out edges lace wig glue can ruin your hair line weaves can look a mess if you don't know what your doing. We have all seen protective styling gone wrong but here you can find protective styling gone right !

* Consult with your man before trying out type 4 hair some men don't like individuals especially those big Janet Jackson box braids if your head is already big and you plan on putting those big ass braids in a big ass bun your man might not like that. Weave hair sheds like cats and dogs and guys don't like it girls don't either, up do's that cant be touched or messed up can be a issue too . Individuals make you look lazy and you ain't even know it did you ?  These can be great for single women who are not looking for husbands but I don't know too many guys who like most of these hairstyle especially when fake hair is added to achieve the style if your hair is long and natural then feel free to do all theses styles using your real hair only you will get more respect form guys.stuff like that is hot to them there is always and exception tho ... if your pretty enough to pull it off and if it looks right on you then its ok to guys its really that simple ( shallow) *

Quick weaves ( not pictured above) also fall into this type they can be damaging even if they are cute that glue is no joke and will leave you frustrated and eventually bald so please think twice.
